Dr. Effie Mougianis

Dr. Mougianis brings a deep commitment to youth well-being, inclusive education, and girls’ empowerment through her extensive background in clinical psychology and advocacy. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Smith College, a historic Seven Sisters women’s college renowned for its leadership in advancing women’s education. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, specializing in pediatric and health psychology.

Currently a psychologist at Alberta Health Services' Chronic Pain Centre, Dr. Mougianis focuses on supporting young adults living with chronic pain. Her clinical work is grounded in empathy and evidence-based care, and reflects a lifelong dedication to understanding and addressing the unique challenges young people face when navigating health and education systems. Throughout her career, Dr. Mougianis has worked closely with educators to support the reintegration of children with chronic health conditions into school following extended absences. This work has deepened her understanding of the educational system and the diverse needs of students, particularly those managing invisible or stigmatized health issues.

A passionate advocate for girls' education, Dr. Mougianis draws inspiration from both her own academic journey and her personal experience as a parent of a CGCS student. She is also actively involved in advocacy efforts for gender-diverse youth and young adults, championing inclusive practices in both healthcare and school settings.

Dr. Mougianis is honored to serve on the CGCS Board of Directors, where she brings her clinical expertise, advocacy experience, and personal passion to support the school’s mission of empowering girls to thrive in a complex and changing world.
