Report Cards and Reporting Periods

A formal written report card for students will be issued three times a year, in November, March and June. Conferences with teachers are scheduled to correspond with report cards. In addition, parent/teacher conferences are held in September, which allow parents to share beneficial information about their daughter. If concerns or questions should arise at any time, please feel free to contact your child's teachers.

Students are evaluated on a continual basis. Evaluation is directly related to expectations identified for students at each grade level in the Program of Studies (mandated by the Government of Alberta) and to individual students' expectations and growth. We evaluate students through observations, anecdotal records, portfolios, daily work and diagnostic tests. The curriculum newsletter informs parents of upcoming instructional activities and learning outcomes to enable parents to support their child's learning.

Homework

Parents are encouraged to discuss their child's daily school activities and to review together, completed work or assignments which are brought home. Homework for grades 4-5 should be in duration of 30 minutes or less; grade 6-7 should expect 60 minutes or less and girls in grades 8-9 could expect an average of 90 minutes of homework per night.

Valuables and Personal Items

Children are encouraged to be responsible for their own possessions. Valuable belongings such as MP3 players, CD players, scooters, roller blades, Game Boys, etc. SHOULD NOT be brought to school. Cell phones, if required, are to remain in backpacks and turned off. They are to be used to contact parents in the event of transportation issues only. The school does not assume responsibility for such items.

Lost & Found

Articles of clothing, lunch boxes and student belongings found around the school or on the playground will be placed in the Lost & Found boxes. The exceptions are valuables and money, which should be turned into the office.

Supervision

For safety reasons, please ensure your child does not arrive at school prior to 8:15 am because outdoor supervision by authorized personnel is not scheduled until this time.

Off-Campus Activities and Field Trips

All parents must sign required CGS forms and return them to school before their child will be allowed to participate in any off-campus activity. Parents will be notified of all off-campus activities so that they will be aware of purpose, costs, and other requirements of the trip. Students will not be permitted to participate in any off-campus activity without signed forms. Verbal telephone approvals are not acceptable.

For further information, or if you have specific questions, please contact the school office.
